How do you get your local art community to see your work?
It’s no secret that artists like Banksy and Paul Cézanne were not just looking for work but also for love.
So how do you find a place that fits both?
That’s what local artist Paul César created when he turned to street art for inspiration.
Paul’s art has been exhibited at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the World Bank, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Ullman Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
But his work is much more than just the abstracts and graffiti he paints.
His paintings are a portrait of life in the modern age, of the ways people interact with each other and the way the world is evolving.
And they are inspired by the world of modern art and architecture.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do that,” Césam said.
“But when I started, I was thinking about what’s possible with street art and what’s not.
It’s a very universal thing that we all share.
It feels really universal.”
Césart has found a place in Miami that is home to his latest art work.
The Art Center of Miami (ACOM) is a four-story, 200,000 square-foot building on Miami Beach that is located at the corner of Miami Street and Montpellier Avenue.
It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is open to the public 365 days a year.
“We started this project to really create a space for art in the neighborhood,” said Art Center Executive Director and Executive Director of Marketing and Marketing Services, Jennifer Krieger.
“I think it was really important to us that the building be in the heart of downtown.”
ACOM, like many art galleries, has its roots in the South, where art galleries have been created for centuries.
However, Césaram says he is more inspired by what he sees in Miami and the people he sees there.
“What I think I’m most inspired by is that I feel a sense of community that’s very, very strong in this neighborhood,” Cesar said.
It has helped to bring a sense in Miami’s art community that he has found an artist’s space that will reflect that.
“The people I’ve seen there, they have the same kind of spirit that I’ve been trying to bring to my work,” Céesar said, “and it’s just so cool to see that.”
César says he doesn’t take any credit for the idea of the Art Center, and he isn’t the only one looking to create an art gallery.
Art Center Manager, Lisa Lippa says the idea came from the idea that Miami is one of the most multicultural cities in the world.
“We’ve always had an art museum in the area, but it’s always been in a very narrow and small space,” Lippas said.
She says the building was designed with a variety of spaces to allow for the variety of people in the community to come together.
The building also has the capacity to house an auditorium and is accessible from both sides of the street.
“It’s a great location for artists,” Littas said, and it is also a perfect fit for a street art gallery that is open 24 hours.
“Because it’s in the center of downtown, the ArtCenter is always on, so it’s easy to get in,” Lizzas said about how easy it is to get into.
The space can accommodate up to 100 artists, and they can come in and paint anytime of the day.
“The main attraction is the art, and that’s what makes it unique,” Lizza said.
Lizza says artists are looking to bring their art into the neighborhood as well.
“That’s the big thing for us,” Liza said.
So what does it take to get your work into a new art gallery?
Lizzaa says the first step is to come in to the Artcenter and show your work.
“There’s a process where you come in, we have a small room, you show your piece and we can pick out what we think you should have in there,” Litton said.
Then you will be invited to paint and you have to sign a lease.
“If you’re a professional, it takes a couple of weeks, but if you’re just getting started, that can be done in a few days,” Lissa said.
Once you’ve signed the lease, the next step is actually deciding what to do next.
“A lot of artists who are in Miami are drawn to the arts community, but the process for going to an artist for an art exhibition can be pretty daunting,” Litza said, so you have options to do both.
There are also workshops for people looking to get more exposure.
